Highlights: Week of September 4th-7th

We had a sharing circle on our first day to introduce ourselves and share some fun things we did in the summer or to share something we were looking forward to this year.

We had several class meetings to discuss:
-Entry & late slips
-Where to find materials in the class and to talk about the different learning spaces
-To talk about classroom expectations/expected and unexpected behaviors
-To discuss the the expectations around fire drills and lockdowns (which we practiced)
-Where the boundaries are on the playground and how to solve problems at recess

We read a few different books this week! We read The Invisible Boy and Odd Velvet and talked about how we can create a sense of belonging in our classroom where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

We also read a chapter from a couple of different books to explore books/series that students might like to try this year.

We worked with a partner on a scavenger hunt!

We set up our visual journals! We reinforced our covers, glued in tables of content and numbered the first 30 pages. We talked about how we should hold our journals and the importance of our journal as we move through our learning this year.

We started/completed a few entries in our journals as well which included a 10 things about me page, an outdoor mission and an adventure map using the story The Magic Hockey Stick.

In math we have played a few games to get our brains strong after a nice long summer. We played a strategy game called 10 counters, we played addition war and roll and add.
