Highlights from our week:

We explored some pattern problems and centers this week which included:
-The Handshake Problem
-The Licorice Problem

We played the game Kaboom to practice addition facts and we talked about math vocabulary that included: doubles and algorithms.

We have tried a new typing website this week: www.typingclub.com and everyone agrees that it is a VERY fun site that continues to build our capacity to be more effective with our typing skills.

We tried a new kid friendly search engine called Kiddle which will be our starting point for any research that we will be going on in our classroom. To experiment with this search engine, we have started some independent research on a topic of our choice!

In social studies we have been working on exploring the grade 3 textbook using a thinking routine called a daily double :) We are recording things we see and find interesting with diagrams and descriptions and then using those observations to make inferences about what that might mean about the four global countries we are studying this year.

We had a scientist named Microscope Mike come in to talk about Rocks and Minerals this week. We went through different centers looking at rocks, created a volcano and took part in a group discussion about what we knew about rocks. We also watched a Bill Nye video this week.

We finished our last two artifact observations and met as a group to share some of our thoughts about one artifact. Once we shared some of our ideas, Ms. Parent shared what the artifact was and where it came from!

In health, we have been talking about the importance of kindness. We also talked about letting everyone be true to who they are and not pointing out things that might make them feel bad inside. If what we are saying with our words or doing with our actions would not build others up- then we should change what we are doing and saying to allow everyone to be themselves, to be happy and to feel like they belong.

In PE we have played basketball, different tag games and backboard dodgeball.

We had another fire drill this week. Ms. Parent needed to remind a few of us the importance of the 4 S's (silent, single file, serious and safe).

We watched a video on the importance of providing specific feedback and how it can help us be the best student we can be. We discussed what we noticed and some thoughts we had from the video. We took time to pair up with a partner to practice giving feedback on some of our writing from our power writing times. https://youtu.be/hqh1MRWZjms

Have a great weekend everyone!
