Week of Oct. 8th

Upcoming:

Oct. 16th: Rock Mania (3-4 volunteers needed)
(Please pay fees online or send in cash/cheque)

Here are some highlights from our week:

We talked about story: what a story is, what makes a good story, what we remember about stories from last year etc. and then we wrote a "show what you know about story writing from grade 2" :)

We all chose different picture prompts and had a couple of writing periods to plan to write our story. First we created a web to highlight the different elements in our story. Next we had some writing time to create our stories.

We had a couple of blocks of catch-up time as many of us had 2-7 entries that were incomplete. As we finish out tasks, we can take our name of the lists :)

We started to scrimmage in basketball this week! We had been practicing ball handling, passing and shooting drills and this week we got to put those skills into a game situation.

We've continued to practice addition and subtraction facts with card games and online!

We've also been examining current events on the website www.timeforkids.com. We had a couple of afternoons where we chose an article (one as a class and one on our own) and we were asked to identify the 5Ws.

We played shut the box and worked on some pattern dots with Ms. Gray.

We examined another artifact in our mystery artifacts- documenting what we saw, thought and wondered.

We spent some time at the curiosity case looking at all of the magnificent hats! We did some sketching and writing in our journals and we shared our stories about our hats with Ms. O's grade 1 students :)
