Week of Sept. 24th

So it looks like I drafted this on Thursday but did not post it! Sorry grade 3's!!

We had an incredibly busy week in Grade 3 :)

We spent a LOT of our time preparing for the Orange Shirt Assembly as well as getting ready for our field trip to the zoo.

During our OSD prep-
-we thought about what residential school meant to us and we wrote a journal entry in our writing journals.
-we had selected a book (Not My Girl) and we practiced reading our parts
-we practiced listening to the pronunciation of the First Nation groups from Treaty 7
-we recorded our lines and made videos to share in the assembly
-we created hearts to surround the stories about experiences at residential schools and of Indigenous cultures
-we talked about the first of the Seven Sacred Teachings: Courage and began our sketch of the animal that represents that teaching
-we had students working on lots of catch up work in their visual journals

For Zoo prep
-we learned two new thinking routines! The 10x2 and the Wonder Web :)
-we practiced each of them using a Gentoo Penguin and one of the Giant Pandas :)
-we talked about expectations when we go off-site

We also
-continued with our novel study
-worked on our KWL chart on Rocks and Minerals
-talked about the difference between a rock and a mineral as well as the three types of rocks
-worked on math facts on math playground and tried some coding with Lightbot
