Highlights from our week!
Buddy the Elf has joined our classroom this week and he has
enjoyed “hanging” around and causing a bit of mischief in our room. Ask me
about what he got up to last week J
We had a desk clean and continued with our flexible seating arrangement
where we were able to move tables and choose who we should sit with.
In our story writing unit, we completed our embodying
questions on our antagonists this week. We have really enjoyed getting to know
our characters and we think it will help us add more detail and description in
our writing. Next week we will finish up sketching our different settings,
create an adventure map as a rough draft of our story and we will continue with
our work around interesting beginnings.
In our literacy centers, some of us started our novel study
in groups with our peers. One of our focuses with our novel study is to show
some independence in our learning as we count on each other to hold ourselves
accountable. Some of us are reading books on Raz-kids (username: soveracker0
and password: our name 123 i.e. Msparent123). We are also meeting with Ms.
Parent and learning strategies to support us in our current reading abilities.
In Social Studies, we have continued to look into the Rights
of the Child and we are now creating an entry in our visual journal to show
what we know! Additionally, we have continued to research our chosen country to
find information about the foods, traditions and demographics for our Google
Slide presentation.
In Science, we have continued with our design project
through Beakerhead as we engaged in the planning of our Tapigami project. We
have been tasked with the assignment to consider “The Year is 3018”. We started
the thinking around this project by looking back 100 years at the inventions
that were considered innovative and ingenious at the time and used that to
begin how the world might change in 1000 years. Many of us considered
inventions that would greatly improve different social justice issues so we
have titled this work “3018: Changing the World for the Best”. Ask me what some
of my ideas are!
In Math, we have been continuing our work with place value
through representing a number in different ways and playing a game during our
computer time called Place Value Game whereby we have to beat Pop Penguin
across a board game. This requires us to solve a variety of place value games
in order to move forward.
In PE, we have continued with hockey scrimmaging this week
and we LOVE the new goalie gear that has been added to our collection!
We also did a guided drawing of Joy :) Next week we will be thinking of things in our life that makes us happy to add to our page.
