WHAT WE DID

We were fortunate this week to have the Calgary Opera come to our school and share a performance with us! Ask me to share a lesson I learned from the story.

We continued playing ringette this week in PE. Next week we start our hockey unit :)

In mathematics this week we had our first problem on the week and it was called "Which Scripts" which consolidates our work in place value in a complex but intriguing way. Ask me about the problem! We were asked to consider WDIK (what do I know) and to describe our thinking through the problem solving process. We also continued our work in place value and considered how we can use base ten blocks to represent large numbers. We talked about making groups of (multiplication) different blocks and used this is a spring board to talk about the zero distributive property rule. Next week we will use our knowledge of place value to begin talking about addition and subtraction with regrouping while continuing to build our conceptualization of how to represent numbers.

This week we finished our reading nook prototypes to bring into the classrooms and to receive some feedback to move our learning forward. We will be meeting with our different classes and teachers to gather stars and wishes as well as to meet with teachers to learn of any additional design constraints (size, spaces available etc.)

We have been working on finishing typing our stories from our work with Ms. Cathy Beverage this week as well as creating our good copies of our poppy shape poems this week. Additionally, we are working towards completing our monster menus in our visual journals. Our big focus in our writing is working on increasing our use of descriptive language to enhance the imagery for our audience.

We are nearing the end of our Number the Stars book! We have left it on a cliff hanger...ask me what that is and why it could be a BIG problem from Anne Marie.

In social we have continued to look at some of the land formations and resources in the different provinces and territories in Canada. We have talked about similarities and differences and we are now connecting that with the physical regions of Canada.

We had our second power hour this week.

Did you know that the c's in pacific ocean all have different sounds?

Have a great weekend everyone!
