We have a class pet!! Please read this update for information.
Happy first day of break to all of you! We had a fantastic
first term in our classroom and enjoyed a wonderful celebration on the last day
to wrap up our learning for the decade. I am sure most of you have now heard
the BIG news!! Ms. Parent brought in a new class pet for Christmas- a beautiful
little hamster named Olive. It was actually quite the ordeal as one of the
students in our class happened to be at the store while Ms. Parent was picking
her up and she had to use a distraction of some cute puppies to actually
complete the adoption without her seeing ;)
The intention in bringing in a class pet is to: support the
development and learning of the sense of responsibility and kindness for other
living beings, to help students learn and have respect for animals in our classroom
and to provide students with opportunities to talk, write stories and research
about animals as it supports language and research skills.
Ms. Parent will be the primary caregiver of Olive and incur
the ultimate responsibilities and costs associated with having her stay with us
in our class. The students in the class will not be mandated to care for Olive
outside of the school and instead this is just to support our learning as
mentioned above. If you have any questions or concerns, please send Ms. Parent
an email at taparent@cbe.ab.ca
