Important Dates January 30 - Fun Lunch January 31 - Division II (Gr 4, 5, 6) Music Concert January 31 - Last day fro Read-a-Thon February 1 - No School for students February 6 - Read-a-Thon forms and money due Highlights from our week: In science/social, we have extended our initial research by selecting one  animal from our global country and to now study this animal with guiding questions. These included the characteristics of the animal, to look at the habitat of the animal and to research it's diet (prey) and it's predators.  In math we have been reviewing the rules of subtraction (more on top, no need to stop; more on the floor, go next door & numbers the same, zero is the game) as well as looking at what to do when our neighbors have nothing to give. We spent some time each day this week getting our Harry Potter shapes sketches done and next we will cut them out and get them into our visual journals! Important Information The Read-a-thon is well underway and students have been SUPER engaged in reading as many minutes we can through the course of our day :) Please continue to track your minutes at home and collect your pledges to help us with our library redesign.  Dress Like Your Favourite Character Day Tying in with the Read-a-thon, Friday, January the 25th is Dress Up Like Your Favourite Book Character Day. Week of Jan 8th-11th

Welcome back Grade 3 students! It was so nice to see the excitement as everyone ran into the school on Tuesday morning :) I am so happy to hear that everyone had such an amazing break with your families and friends. We started the week with a nice morning circle to allow everyone a chance to share a few things about their breaks. We also welcomed a new student, Emmanuel, to our classroom this week. I was proud of the leaders in our room who stepped up and showed him around and played with him at recess (there was no shortage of students who were interested in helping- we have such a kind and compassionate group this year :) ). In math this week, we reviewed addition and subtraction with regrouping and talked about why we might need to use these concepts in the real world. We started a budgeting project where the students have been given $1000 to design a dream bedroom from Ikea. They have to select an item from a number of different categories (bed frames, mattresses, textiles etc....

On Thursday, we spent some time in the afternoon in a circle for Bella. We had a chance to go around the circle a few times and share our favorite memories and well wishes as she moves forward in her journey to a few school.
